Are you a resarcher working in the field of cancer detection in Cambridge, UK? If yes, I would like to invite you to participate in the first component of this study.

What is the purpose of the study?

Early detection is one of the most important innovations supporting the improvement of health outcomes for people affected by cancer in the UK. In this realm, professionals from various disciplines are coming together to develop and test novel cancer detection technologies in Cambridge. Yet, the experience of those who carry out research studies in this emerging field is still unclear. This component of a larger study aims to better understand: how esearchers advance biological research underpinning early cancer detection, how they carry out biomarker discovery and validation, and how they develop technologies with potential clinical use in Cambridge.

Specifically, I am interested in understanding and documenting: how you approach biomedical innovation in the field of cancer detection in practice, what the challenges are for you, and how you navigate those challenges along the way. The data I collect from will be anonymised at the moment of analysis and publication.

How would your participation look like?

1/ We will meet, at the time and place you choose, in order to discuss some aspects of the work you do, the challenges you face, and how you make sense of the whole project of the early detection of cancer.

2/ I will observe some aspects of the work you do while engaging in any relevant research activity related to the early detection of cancer (you can choose what you want to show me).

Who has reviewed this study?

This component of the study has been approved by the ethics comittee of the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge.
